Stellenbosch University's electric vehicle initiative, led by the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the MTN Mobile Intelligence Lab, focuses on electrifying the Sub-Saharan African paratransit sector, notably the minibus taxi industry. Our research covers energy dynamics, mobility simulations, operational efficiency, vehicle-to-grid applications, and retrofitting. By optimizing electric minibus taxis' performance, integrating them into the grid, and repurposing existing vehicles, we're driving eco-friendly transportation solutions that cater to the region's unique needs, fostering a sustainable and innovative future.
